![]() Life In Hymn On “Never Let Him Go” Hicks works with producers Harold H. Durrett and Tyree L. Batey to foster a quiet storm vibe of exhortation. The following piece, “Don’t Run Away from Him” is a natural thematic sequel, with its similar theme. This time, however, Hicks shares almost equal vocal billing with her backing crew.“Joy In Him” is an exhuberant cut with an incessantly driving groove to emphasize the point of God’s non-stop provision to the believer. Hicks’ pleasing alto vocals fit nicely into the keyboard pocket and judiciously arranged backing chorus. Michael Ripoll's acoustic guitar features prominently on the praise chorus, “Begin and End With Him”, a smooth-flowing cut that puts the focus on the importance of relying completely on God, expressed as the Alpha and Omega. The more contemporary “Say Amen To Him” relies more heavily on sparse beats, it’s rhythmic hook serving to bring home the message. Combining jazzy ballads and grooving choruses, Alice Hicks makes her mark on the scene with this worthy debut. Call Life In Hymn one of the nicest surprises to hit the shelves this season.
