Faith Unscripted So, it's no surprise that to celebrate 30 years in the industry, and to raise funds for his newest venture, the Jones amassed some of gospel's biggest names for his latest release, Faith Unscripted, the debut project on Nashville's Sunrise Music Group. Much like its title suggests, Jones, backed by his faithful Nashville Super Choir, teams with an all-star list of gospel friends for nearly an hour of heartfelt and impromptu celebration. Proceeds from the sale of the CD/DVD set (the two discs are bundled together in one retail package) will benefit the Dr. Bobby Jones Gospel Complex for Education and Preservation. While few albums ever go the "unscripted" route, the impulsive nature of the effort lends itself to a level of authenticity that highlights the exciting spirit of this celebration. Check out the Clark Sisters' classic "You Brought the Sunshine" as crafted through the creative colander of Jones and company. Having Karen Clark-Sheard handling lead vocals while adding musical direction for the choir is a treat that is difficult to replicate in any other environment. The same can be said for the Tye Tribbett-penned "Victory", where Tribbett cleverly navigates the Super Choir into uncharted territory. As these collaborations pop, the strength of any Bobby Jones musical presentation is his traditional sets and those selections do not disappoint. Vanessa Bell Armstrong adds her worthy lead vocals to the James Cleveland favorite "Peace Be Still", while Micah Stampley puts his "stamp" on "Oh How I Love Jesus". Armstrong, Stampley, and Sheard join forces with Jones on the churchy Evelyn Gay-penned staple, "I'm a Soldier In the Army of the Lord". Other standout cuts include Judith Christie McAllister's reverent vocals on "Holy, Holy, Holy" and Dr. Jones resurrection of the Keith Pringle classic "Call Him Up". Look out for guest vocals also from Joe Ligon, Darrel Petties, Darlene McCoy, Chris Bolton, and Lynn Brown sprinkled throughout the effort. Faith Unscripted is a worthy celebration of the incredible accomplishments and contributions of the legendary Dr. Bobby Jones and is a deserving addition to any gospel lover's musical library.
