Chris Byrd
The Minstrel's Journey

Over the last 15 years, Chris Byrd has weathered the test of time to continually and consistently produce relevant music to the masses. With experience as music director for The Rance Allen Group and known for leading his choral aggregation True Victory, Byrd briefly steps away to launch only his second solo project, The Minstrel’s Journey.

The album is a 14-track effort that houses Byrd’s latest body of work, chronicling a variety of musical experiences straight from the heart of the minstrel.

CD Byrd has always been a solid writer, generally penning the bulk of his recorded work himself. This time out, Byrd also tackles the lion’s share of other responsibilities as well, writing, producing and singing the bulk of all vocals on the effort. Now, that’s quite the assignment! The end result is both a different sound and feel for the project, which still works for Byrd.

The Toledo, Ohio native is establishing himself as a prolific Biblical storyteller, as is evidenced on tracks like “Still Workin’ Miracles”. Byrd can get your head noddin’ and he does just that with tracks like “Bless His Holy Name” and “Make His Praise Glorious”, which are both funk-filled and praise-infused.

He also lays out a blazin’ slow jam, as is evidenced on “Wait” and the terrifically infectious “Yearnin’”.

The veteran takes the opportunity to showcase two new groups on the project, introducing Journey, a female group consisting of Brionna Byrd, Brittney Byrd, Arielle Campbell, and Tai-Isha Sparks. Sparks leads the quartet on the mid-tempo groove “Wait On The Lord”. The group is also featured on “Open the Eyes of My Heart”, with both tracks showcasing their tight harmonies.

Byrd then participates with a male quartet styled group known as The Heavenaires, teaming with Pastor Darrell Sheares, Terry Faison, and Pastor Randall Parker on the traditionally styled “Call His Name” and “Blessed Be the Name of The Lord”.

From contemporary to quartet to urban worship, Byrd exhibits a high level of comfort and skill in any musical presentation. The totality and full diversity of Byrd’s music ministry shines through in this effort, as Byrd continues to solidify his place as one of Gospel’s most consistent minstrels.
