It's a Coko Christmas
Light Records
2008

Coko follows up her acclaimed solo gospel project with a Christmas offering that bears her name. Combining standards with new music, and throwing in some cuts from back in the day (when Coko was a member of SWV), the nine-song set satisfies with it's soulful jazz vibe and good tidings.

Deon Kipping writes "We Thank You" to kick off the project, a jazzy gospel ode of gratitude that highlight's Coko's smooth pipes. On "The Greatest", she pays tribute to God's gift in giving us Jesus Christ, set to an infectious groove with a dollop of funk. George Huff joins in on duet on "Give Love on Christmas Day".

Coko gives "Silent Night" her special treatment, singing together with her mother, Lady Tibba, and her young son Jalen. "The Christmas Song", "O Holy Night" and the Donny Hathaway favorite "This Christmas" are also on the album, reminding of SWV, with "Grateful" and "Holy" (from Coko's solo debut) rounding things out. The album hits all the right notes, and does everything a holiday offering should.
