Da'Quela
Blue Sky

Da'Quela Payne, winner of TBN's Gifted talent search, infuses a wealth of life experience into her music. Blue Sky, her 10-song debut on EMI Gospel, takes full advantage of her that, delivering vertically-focused ballads and urban cuts wrapped in a mature sound with appeal for a range of ages.

CD "Shining Star" is a jam with labelmates Darlene McCoy and Antonio Neal sharing co-writing and background vocal duties. Not too urban, not too chill, this is one good for a sunny spring or summer day.

Doubledutch produces the funky and synth-heavy, "I Got You", where Da'Quela sings of the assurance of knowing that God's indwelling trumps every possibility that life throw at you.

Da'Quela shines brightest on ballads. Darwin Hobbs joins her on "Never Too Far", and the two compliment each other well. On "Incredible", worship is the focus. CCM notable Andy Selby and Antonio Neal shared the pen in writing this gem, while Kyle Lovett plays the keys and handles programming.

"Psalms 23" comes to life courtesy Selby's string arrangement, and breathy backing vocals. Neal and Lovett co-write the rhythm 'n praise slow jam, "It's Love".

Encouragement serves as the theme for the dance-heavy, "You Gon' Make It", with heavy tom tom drum programming from Doubledutch. DJ Maj adds some sauce to "All I Need".

Showing promise and poise, Da'Quela delivers an enjoyable and uplifting first offering.
