Derrick Pearson
Lord You Are My Everything

Vocalist, instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Derrick "Doc" Pearson drops a stunner of a project on the Gospel community with Lord You Are My Everything.

'Stunner' because of the deftness of the melody making, the songcraft and the overall artistry of the set, combined with sincere ministry. Pearson, who brings a long resume of CDcomposition and production work for legends such as The O'Jays, The Whispers and The Dells, soars his fine tenor falsetto over a range of contemporary, ear-catching styles.

Look for the title track to make to anyone's hit list. With a powerful melodic hook, Pearson grooves his vocals to the infectious and bouncy track. Brian Lanear's tenor sax solo break at mid-song and the finessed backing chorus add oomph to the proceedings.

The reggae beat of "O Lord My Strength" guides the delivered lyrics of this musical psalm, with gentle vocal patter spicing things up. On "Be Strong", the exhortation is powerful and matches the force and strength of the track and chanted chorus.

On the more mellow tip, Pearson dips into balladry on "The Stone Has Been Rolled Away". With accompanying strings and harmonized backing vocals echoing the solo line, this cut's essential message lingers far after the closing fade. Other star numbers are "Keeper" and "Sweeter Than The Day Before".

Combine all this with some dramatic spoken word and you've got yourself a winner of a project. Call Lord You Are My Everything a keeper and make it your duty to add it to your Gospel library.
