![]() JesuGuru The album title is also an 'aka' for the artist. As explained on the interlude "Who Is JesuGuru", 'Jesu' another way of saying Jesus, and guru means 'expert'. So his name means 'Jesus expert' or 'Jesus teacher'. Don't go into this one with preset expectations, for this is an artist that is bound to surprise you. Running the gamut of R&P, hip hop, jazz, pop and melds of them all, Hill's strong point is his lyricism. His words are poetic as he expresses his praise and gives his testimony, using his smooth, clean tenor pipes to maximum effect. At times, his vocal delivery seems to walk that fine line between singing and spoken word."I'll Bless Thee" is marked by some innovative production techniques, including some child-like cooing in the background track. "I Feel It Now" is a prayer of thanks for God's mercy, with stacked vocals set over staccato track and female vocal loop. Put a star beside "Keep An Eye", a tender, guitar-touched melody with a touch of twang, and take note of "S.G.L", a funky slow cut about 'support, guidance, love', which Hill uses to exhort about brotherly love. On "Speak To You", Hill brings in Virnun D. Stevens, the two weaving together in a song that takes God's point of view. The fast-paced "Faith Is" and the "As Pure As Gold" remix stand out as alternatively-tempo'd numbers. With plenty more cuts to choose from (with 20 tracks, the album runs for over 75 minutes), JesuGuru has made his mark.
