In comes Group 1 Crew, with a whole new deal. This trio consisting of singer Blanca and emcees, Pablo and Manwell. On their self-titled debut, Group 1 Crew bring a fresh blend of hip hop, dance, urban and latin sounds. Chris Stevens and Andy Anderson's versatile production compliments the different tastes of the group."Let It Roll" is a fun jam with a nice syncopated beat that is infectious with its message to simply let the cares of this world pass you by. Blanca has some pipes! On "I Have A Dream", she showcases her rapping skills as each member tells how they overcame a troubled past to lead the fulfilling plan that God has for their lives. Hip hop heads will take note of Pablo and Manwell’s slick skills. The group goes for a rock vibe with a spice of reggae on "I Can't Go On", in which they testify that they cannot live their life without Christ's guidance. With all that is going on in the entertainment industry these days, "Come On Home" will really minister to those are searching for the next "new thing" to find happiness. Get ready to dance, and keep dancing on the fascinatingly captivating "What Yo Name Is". The song has a midtempo beat topped with some nice synth add-ins, with Blanca's butter adlibs and the guys’ raps rounding things out. Make a video for this, and TRL will be all over it. Don't stop dancing because the uptempo, "Put Like That" will keep the praise party going. Skeptics, don’t worry, Group 1 Crew assure listeners that they are saved, sanctified, and chosen by God. Things get intense on the slowed down and heartfelt "Forgive Me". This has a 80's pop-tinged chorus and should make it on CCM radio as long as no-one gets scared away by the fellas rapping on their verse. Blanca brings it home and shows her range towards the end. Some might compare Group 1 Crew to the Black Eyed Peas, and there is an element of that, but they do bring a sound of their own. This is one of the best releases of 07, and will be a favorite for many.
