Experience: My Perspective With an extensive background as a drummer, Bowman uses his experience to transition into a smooth vocalist with a penchant for old school soul and jazz on his debut, Experience: My Perspective. Comprised of a mix of hymn remakes, plus a smattering of patriotic and pop favorites, this debut is thoroughly enjoyable."Love Lifted Me" is a smooth jazz remake of the popular hymn, with Bowman's chill tenor vocals shining throughout. "Wherever I Go" is Bowman's pledge to remain true to his relationship with God. The beds of backing vocals fit in nicely with the snazzy guitar solo. The grandmother crowd and traditional Gospel music lovers will be happy to know that Bowman does justice to "What A Fellowship", turning it into a laid back ballad while maintaining the essential message of the song. On "Onward Christian Soldiers", Bowman gets into his Earth, Wind & Fire flava. Horns, funky bass and Bowman's best Maurice White impression defy you dust off your platform shoes and boogie. Could the cut even be one that EWF lost track of along the way? No, but it’s that good. The groove variations continue with "There's A Fountain Filled With Blood", with its Latin party quality. Timbales by Bowman adds appropriate spice. The album is more than remakes, however. Bowman himself pens several songs on the album, with "Giving You Back Your Glory" being the standout, with its nice R&P groove and Bowman's butter vocals up front. Those who love the melodious sounds of Nat King Cole will love what Bowman does with "America". Definitely on track to turn heads of jazz and oldies enthusiasts alike, his voice smoothly soars over a lovely baby grand piano line. Oh, and don’t forget to check out Bowman's cover of Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone". With this sort of experience, and this kind of perspective, James Bowman III looks like he’s here to stay.
