Lamar Campbell is back, and with his NuSpring Gospel debut, he and Spirit of Praise demonstrate that they remain a force on the scene.

New song, New sound is a praise and worship offering, and serves up a musical dish that fans and followers have come to expect from the Indianapolis collective. Campbell leads vocally throughout the eleven song album, with Spirit of Praise rendering smoothly harmonized choir support.

The album leads off with the infectious "Evidence", one of two songs on the album penned by Leon Lewis. A memorable melodic line with supporting horns from Lloyd Barry's seasoned crew make the song an album highlight.

"Now Is the Time" is a mid-tempo rouser that features Michelle Boner up front. With the encouraging words that "now is the time to believe", Boner and choir urge the acting out of faith, basing our action on God's never-fail promises. The cut then transforms into a rambunctious praise, filled with shouts and traditional rhythms, with guest Rodnie Byrant stepping to the mic.

On "I Trust You Lord", Campbell joins with Ray Bady to trade testimonial lines over a slow-driving groove and long drawn out choir phrases. "Sing a New Song" is the de facto urban-flaired title cut, a choir praise number with a high stick quotient.

Other notable moments on this disc are the "Spirit of Praise Medley" and the powerfully rendered "Spirit of Praise 'Live' Worship".

Lamar Campbell has been going strong for decades now. New Song, New Sound adds to his formidable body of work, and makes for a great addition to the Gospel enthusiast's music library.
