Unexpected Mixes: Volume 2 - Street Blessings
As Platinum Souls, the duo of Ricardo FLO and Ty Scott return with another volume of Unexpected Mixes. The second installment of this urban mixtape, titled Street Blessings, continues to fuse the power of hip hop with the beauty of the spoken word while introducing some new vibes to the mix.
Have no fear, the end result is another potent project which will have you asking for more from Atlanta's dynamic duo.
FLO and Scott kick the project off with "Nothing But Jesus", an addictive track that has a catchy hook that will be easy for all to quickly get attached to. The duo also team up on a reprise of "Are Ya'll Ready", originally found on their first volume.
Speaking of that debut, the duo revisits and remixes a track or two, including a hot remix of "What It Look Like", featuring South Carolina newcomer Netta, who adds serious vocals to the track. They also drop a remix of Ty Scott's spoken word piece titled "Unexpected". This remix has the poetic flow laced with a hot mix of hot secular tracks skillfully mixed by the returning DJ Device.
Platinum Souls bring a new group of friends along for the ride for this mixtape. Kay Bizzy brings the pain with "Look @ Me", where the lyricist offers himself as an example to those who lack a role model. He asks listeners to watch him as he follows Christ. Bizzy offers a tight praise that he states is "crunker than crunker than crunk". Now top that!!
Well, newcomer Netta aims to do that as she total redesigns and remakes Tweet's "Oops...Oh My". Not too many secular remakes are worth a listen, but this one is one to pay close attention to. Netta takes a song with questionable content and remakes it to speak

of Christ's ability and power to change lives by removing the shackles of sin. This song is blessing many and is attracting new souls to Christ.
F.O.W (Fountains of Wisdom) drops a great track titled "Christlike Girl". The song speaks of the desire of a single Christian man whose looking for a woman who displays the attributes of Christ. It has the makings of a theme song for single men.
Make no mistake though, this project highlights the skills of Platinum Souls. FLO and Scott team up on the car bumpin' vibe "Now", which shows the lyrical prowess of both. Scott's versatility is amazing, as she rhymes, sings, and drops the spoken word throughout the ride. While flowing sweetly on "Now", she drops some vocals on their "Break", which serves as a cover of the theme song from the defunct BET video show, Cita's World, and has Scott replacing Cita with Jesus. This 68 second cover hits you from left field.
Though Scott both sings and rhymes, her calling is unmistakably found in her delivery of the spoken word. "7 x 70" finds her spittin' serious knowledge about the depth of Christ's forgiveness and His ability to restore us from the most dismal circumstances. Her lyrics are anointed and potent.
So, once again, Platinum Souls deliver a mixtape that will bless the street and the musical ear. We're starting to be able to expect excellence from these Unexpected Mixes.
