Sonya D. Johnson
Worship From The Heart

It is never easy for individuals in a talented musical family to venture forth with their own solo project, since many will compare and contrast talents without giving the artist the opportunity to express their own musical talents and gifts.

CDFor Sonya D. Johnson, sister of Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson and cousin of Darrell McFadden, "upholding the family mantle" has never been her biggest goal. Rather, she focuses on giving all glory, honor, and praises to God while encouraging people through worship melodies.

On Worship from the Heart, Johnson does just that with a delightful 12 track, praise & worship set.

The album's first track, "Be Still", features Johnson setting an atmosphere of worship through spoken word and beautiful singing over an organ and piano arrangement. Demonstrating her wide vocal range, she encourages listeners to yield to God.

"In Praise to You" brings in her brother, Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson, in an unforgettable, hand-clapping, foot-tapping duet.

"We Yearn For Your Presence" is a harmony-filled worship song that encourages you to embrace God's spirit. In 'Spirit of the Living God', 'When Will You Trust Me?', and 'Waiting' Johnson sings in jazzy style together with a team of singers. Those three songs will assuredly get you to sing along in worship.

On "I Love You Lord/ Sweet Sweet Spirit", Sonja does a wonderful rendition of the popular church song, put to an upbeat melody.

One of the best songs on Worship from the Heart is "Thorns". Declaring that God's grace is sufficient for us, Johnson displays her true talent as minister and psalmist. She uses the song to remind you that God has everything in control.

Worship from the Heart is a very good project that encourages listeners to embrace and participate in ultimate worship, while receiving their breakthrough at the same time. Sonja Johnson accomplishes her goal —and also holds her own in a talented musical family.
