Times of Refreshing Album highlights are many. "Your Name Alone" is a vertical love song that features melodic string accompaniment from the irreplaceable Nashville String Machine. This gives way to a medley of timeless worship songs: "Above All" and "Lord I Life Your Name On High". The power of this set is so strong that it becomes difficult to move on.Hurd briefly revisits the boisterously fun "Glory Chant", complete with funky horn arrangements from Phillip Lassitar. Another cut that puts a smile on your face is "You Are", an upbeat, driving number featuring songwriter Chris Holmes, and also Michael White, who each step in to ad lib. The standout track on this project is "Amazing", written by Justin Savage. With its soft rock edge and beautiful vocal arrangements, it is neither too complicated nor too wordy, making it very accessible. The song expresses a vision of people of various backgrounds, colors and denominations singing in harmony about how amazing God truly is. Yes, it may sound cliché, but give it one listen and will surely grab you. On the "Hymns of the Church Medley", Hurd gives love to hymns that may now be obscure to some. "Day by Day With Each Passing Moment" and Fanny Crosby's "To God Be the Glory" are in the mix. Then he takes it to straight to church with "He'll Understand and Say Well Done". Hurd includes several exhortations and issues a charge to those who lead worship and minister in music. Stephen Hurd stays true to the title of the album. Take a good listen, for Times of Refreshing is exactly that.
