The Washington Projects
Commanders of the Resistance

Je'Kob and Rachael Washington were members of the group Souljahz along with brother Josh (read album review). With the departure of Joshu'a, the remaining two have formed The Washington Projects and have released Commanders Of The Resistance on The Black and White Label Group.

CD Je'Kob handles much of the production along with Kajmir. With this restart, Washington Projects minister to the youth, dealing with everyday issues such as self-esteem, relationships and good ole' fun.

"Diamonds" is a face-paced jam that will blow up Top 40 radio with its techno urban sound. Rachel assures the ladies that they are valuable and should not be judged on the basis of outward appearance alone. The duo aggressively tells those in "dead end situations" to get on with their lives on "Move". Beatmizers lay down the bangin' track which helps the case for this one to be considered as anthem of the year.

WP will not be put in a box, as they both rap and sing. The percussion-heavy worship song, "Your Are My World", showcases the pure vocals of Rachel and Jekob's unique vocal style. "Love is Like An Ocean" is another standout track that speaks of the complexity of real love that is so often misinterpreted by the world. Jekob sings his prayer to God over an acoustic guitar on "Deliverance" —a song would be better if it was more than a two minute interlude. "I Will Stay With You" has Jekob also paying homage to his wife on their wedding day.

One listen to "Crazy" and you will only want to dance as both siblings express how they 'rep the King', not allowing naysayers deter them from their mission. WP want people to use their time wisely on the properly titled "Time" as it will march on, with or without you.

Each sibling takes the time to tackle relationship issues on "She Can't Love You" and "That Girl". "Outside Your Window" is a rock/pop ballad as WP encourage people to wakeup and do what they can to care for the next generation, and help change the world.

Commanders Of The Resistance is a hit album, and one that deserves the attention of youth pastors, youth groups and multi-formatted radio stations. The Washington Projects have made a mark.
