Are we making a difference... yet?
May 26, 2005

Welcome to Hip Hop as I see it.

Are we making a difference... yet? Of course we are... I think? Nah, I know we are. The Kingdom of God is a powerful force.

Look at all the mega churches, mega preachers, mega book sales, mega souls saved…I think we doing aight. Of course, in all that I’ve mentioned, you can pull out the negative, because with any good thing, the bad thing is close behind.

But let’s be positive... the Kingdom of God is a force.

The Purpose Driven Life is the #1 selling book of all time in America. Joel Osteen has been doing crusades around the country, and to show you how successful they were, he sold out Madison Square Garden. Twice. Oh yeah, and he bought the dome the Houston Comets played in.

TD Jakes. That’s all I need to say. He’s the modern day Martin Luther King Jr.

I saw a program on CNBC called "God and Money" (link) and surprisingly, it was very truthful and eye opening. But one statement sums up the whole program. An 'expert' was quoted as saying (and here’s my super duper parphrase), "The evangelical (Christian) market is a force. I don’t care how much you hate them, you have to please them or you can find yourself out of business." Priceless.

But what about Holy Hip Hop?

We all know about T-Bone and The Fighting Temptations. A few weeks a ago Lil’ Irroc performed on Soul Train. The Cross Movement continues to do their thing... they will be releasing 3 albums this year alone, off of their very busy label. They also have collectively sold close to half a mil albums. Gully.

Tonex got a joint on the XXX, State of the Union soundtrack (I know he’s not totally Hip Hop, but hey, can you do what he does?) Kurtis Blow (yes, Thee) has Holy Hip Hop services in Harlem, NY and there was a spill about it in the last XXL magazine. Gritswon a GMA Music Award (Dove Award). The Holy Hip Hop Taking It To The Streets compilation was nominated for a Grammy. And there are so many others doing great things, it would make for a long column.

Now I know what your thinking: "It’s all about souls, Sean!" No doubt. And what exactly are these mysterious 'souls'? They are people, my friends. And in every advancement God allows Holy Hip Hop to make, we reach more people. God saves, we spread the message. So for all of us artists, let’s continue to fight for platinum plaques and platinum souls.

And yes... we are making a difference.
