Mmmmm Tasty

Welcome to Hip-Hop as I see it.

I recently got back from Flavafest and, as usual, it was full of flava. Held in Tampa at the Crossover Church, from Nov.4 to 7, 2004, this Hip Hop conference gets better every year. Urban D and company have been doing this for 5 years now and I believe they have mastered that elusive quality most Hip Hop ministries long for —excellence. From registration, to the magazines and flyers, to the setup and breakdown of different events, to the sheer organization and structure of a massive event like this, they're doing it.

I arrived Friday morning and recieved my Flava packet quickly, which included the Flava badge, Flavafest 2004 mag (with Truth on the cover), promo cards and a XXXL (thank God) T-shirt.

Soon thereafter I was on the b-ball court playing a 5 on 5 with Truth, Promise d'Apostle, Josh Niemyjski, Craig Nice and others. That's what's up. Even though my game was off (glass backboards on a streetball court?), I had fun.

That evening the concerts jumped off, and every artist did their thing. The altar call was awesome. The people that come to support the event and buy the CDs and just act crazy for Christ are what makes this thing special. This is a place for artists, fans, breakers, mags, web cats and anybody that loves Hip-Hop and has a hand in it, to connect. The following day I attended some seminars like "How to Get Booked" or "Structure in an Urban Ministry". In the words of Mastercard: priceless.

And for anybody trying to get their Hip-Hop-full-ministry on, you need to go to Flavafest. Or Rapfest or Holy Hip Hop Awards or the UGA Conference for that matter. Not only will you gain some knowledge, you meet people who can help you get to where you believe God would have you. It's these connections that make these events worth the airfare tix and hotel stay. That Saturday evening was another bangin' night. We got to perform some new music from our upcoming new album and people seemed to enjoy it.

Speaking of new album (shameless transition to a shameless plug), I have a new album entitled Die Another Day which will be released for online purchase on Jan. 18, 2005. The official in-store release date will be late Feb., early March. It's being nationally distributed by Executive Music Group out of Houston, Texas. The first radio single will be a commercially-type joint called "Love Jones". It's a really good song. The joint the heads will be looking for is the second single "Die Daily". This song is produced by my main man Aaron "Quest" Cordova from ' Shaolin', Ny, and it's a banger. We've also shot a video for "Die Daily" and documentary that will be released toward the end of the first quarter and avaliable for the masses.

My next stop will be the Holy Hip Hop Awards where I will be receiving an Award for Holy Hip Hoppin'. But seriously, it's an honor and should be another great event. So for all those who I am starting to see on a repeated bases at the HHH, holla at ya boy!

And for the new faces, please speak in measured tones.

[Editor's note: Check out Sean Slaughter's single on the new Holy Hip Hop Vol. 2 Compilation too!]
