Interview

Kierra "Kiki" Sheard has emerged as a solo artist on EMI Gospel, with her album I Owe You. The teenage vocalist is, of course, known as the daughter of Karen Clark Sheard, and the grandaughter of the legendary Dr. Mattie Moss Clark.

Her vocal talent has not gone unnoticed in her various appearances here and there at her mother's side.

We put several interesting questions to Kierra in this Insider Interview, and we think you'll agree that her answers open up new vistas with respect to discovering who she is. Check it out!

QuestionAnswer
Do you have a favorite track on your album, I Owe You? Yes, I have a couple favorites. I would have to say "Let Go", produced by Warryn Campbell. "Sweetest Thing" is also my song, because it's just like a Sade type of groove, jazzy-type smooth thing. And "So Long" and "Praise Offering".
What sort of memories do you have of your grandmother, Dr. Mattie Moss Clark? Kierra Sheard My personal memories, I would have to say, is when she was dealing with her sickness. I would go to her apartment and we would sit and watch stories on television. And eat tomatoes with salt and pepper. And my Momma used to walk in and be like, what are y'all doing? She would be sitting in that wheel chair and I would just be sitting on the floor right beside her. And I would be watching it with her like I'm just her age, like that's my girl. And we would watch stories.

Now that she's gone, I don't even like stories. I don't even watch it. I don't even find stories interesting anymore. And that's one memory that I will always remember. Because she wasn't fussing at me about singing. We were just eating tomatoes.
What is the one thing you want people to know about you? Kierra Sheard One thing that people don't know about me is that I can get crazy. If you mess with, that's something that I have to deal with. I have to fix myself about. If you say something about my momma, my daddy, my aunties...people think I'm just sweet little old KiKi and that's it. But I will flip the script. I can get a little out of control. But my momma always tells me to go somewhere and calm down. But they both know that I get it from my daddy. Because my daddy can get a little crazy too. He preaches the Gospel, but he can flip the script also. So that's something. And people take advantage of you being sweet and nice, and just being this friendly person. But I learned that sometimes you just have to flip the script. And tell them that you are just out of order.
What is the best word or phrase that describes you? Unique and independent.
What fashion trend are you into? Gym shoes.
Name one person who you find fascinating. Mary J. Blige.
If singing weren't an option for you, what would be your dream job? A lawyer.
Name something or someone who makes you laugh: Mommy.
Are you a Mommy's girl or Daddy's girl: Daddy's girl.
What is your favorite Dr. Mattie Moss Clark song? "Salvation".
What is your favorite Clark Sisters song? "My Redeemer Liveth".
