RECAP: Live Recording
Israel & New Breed: Humble, Texas (2007)

Crazy! Wow! Changed! Never Be the same!

Those are some of the words that describe A Deeper Level, the live recording by Israel and New Breed held at the Grace Church of Humble, Texas, on March 4, 2007.

It was not a normal event by any means, and it was a tremendous experience that will not soon be forgotten. Held at the end of the A Deeper Level worship conference (with ajor impartations by Bishop Joseph Garlington, Bishop Tudar Bismark and the incomparable Darlene Israel with Michael GrungorZschech), New Breed prepared by fasting and praying for 40 days. It showed. Israel was pumped! The singers sang with such conviction and passion, and the musicians killed, yet worshipped showing that God was the One being glorified, not musicianship.

The recording started off with a powerful ballad, "When You Pray", with all the singers on their knees. The singers started standing up at different times as the song built into a resounding shout of "We Are Victorious", and the tone was set for the night. Israel then went into quick renditions of "Friend of God" and "Lord You Are Good".

In New Breed fashion, they sang songs such as "Let the Redeemed of the Lord Say So" and "I Know Who I Am" in a way that paves the path for the songs becoming mainstays in churches, not to mention important songs in personal devotion.

Things got funky on the dancehall-tinged jam "With Long Life", with lyrics coming straight out of Psalms. People were dancing, shouting and praising with New Breed every step of the way. Danielle Stephens added some spice to this one with her sure-fire vocals.

Israel has a way of deftly mixing together songs that were certainly not written with that intent. "I Will Find You", an acoustic number which he beautifully wrote together with Chris Tomlin, is melded into "All I Need Is You", made famous by Hillsongs United, and then moves into a cover of the 80's pop song, "All I Need Is A Miracle" from Mike and the Mechanics. It was amazing to see it all unfold.

Israel called those under the age of 25 to "start a Revolution" in their generation. Obviously, the goal of A Deeper Level was not just to make a record and introduce songs. It was a strategic time to impart into the lives of all that were there, and to encourage them to answer God's call on their lives.

The congregation was then led into an impromptu rendition of Andrae Crouch's "Yes Lord" by the Integrity Gospel artist, followed by a 10-15 minute praise and dance segment led by Daniel Johnson. After things settled down, which is a relative term in this setting, New Breed did the bangin' and aggressive "Praise the Walls Down". Producer and artist, YPJ added hype to it, and Johnson did only what he can do on the vamp. The place was still going wild with even YPJ jumping off the stage to encourage the crowd. Is this an exaggeration? Did God really move that powerfully? Yes!

"Where Would I Be?" was a powerful ballad of praise to God while igniting more of a passion to do God's will. Danielle Stephens and Daniel Johnson stepped in at different times to help drive the point home.

This live recording recap cannot even capture the half of what happened. Look for A Deeper Level to be an audio and video event that will be talked about and imprinted into hearts around the world.
