William McDowell
Interview with the Worship Leader

Ohio native, William McDowell has spent years serving as music director for Ron Kenoly and as worship pastor at the Gathering Church under Sam Hinn (brother of Benny Hinn). He is most widely known for his chart topping single "I Give Myself Away", which has remained on the "Gospel Songs" Billboard chart in the top 15 for 33 weeks and counting. It also peaked at the #1 spot almost 2 years after it was recorded.

McDowell is based in Florida and owns a recording studio known as the "Delivery Room" that has hosted Israel Houghton, Martha Munizzi, Trent Cory, Group 1 Crew, Dewayne Woods, KJ-52, and more.

William McDowell Not only is McDowell a masterful worship leader, but he has come together with some major corporations to create Igivemyselfaway.org. McDowell describes it as a global movement of selflessness. People will be able to get involved in big and small projects, as well as being able to create their own projects that will foster opportunities to exhibit acts of selflessness. The goal is to mobilize a movement under the premise of living a life given to providing for those in need.

GOSPELflava.com spoke with William McDowell about his history, music, and what we should expect from him in the future. Take a few minutes and get to know William McDowell.

GOSPELflava.com: You are a Cincinnati, Ohio native and have worked with the incomparable Ron Kenoly, what else should readers know about William McDowell?

William McDowell: I'm a Husband and father first. My family is my first ministry. I love the word of God and use every ministry opportunity afforded to me.

GOSPELflava.com: Some would define you as a worshipper when thinking about your musical approach. How would you define what you bring to the music world?

William McDowell: I would say that I am definitely a worshipper and that comes across in my music. I would also say that God defines what I present as a "messenger style". I am a worshipper at my core, but I do find that I deliver prophetic messages when I minister.

GOSPELflava.com:"I Give Myself Away" has definitely resonated with people across the nation; did you envision this level of success?

William McDowell: I can not really explain what's happening. I feel like a bystander. God is definitely my influence and I believe that He has given me favor at this time. I have been to 11 countries in the last 8 months and it has really become impactful. I almost did not record the song for the project. So to see that people are impacted by it is a blessing and I give God all of the glory.

GOSPELflava.com: Tell us about Igivemyselfaway.org and what effect that you want it to make?

William McDowell: It's really not about "looking good" per se. It's about evoking change. In doing research, we've found that the collective income of church attendees is 5.2 trillion dollars per year. We want to change the world and use the campaign to mobilize people. We want to combine resources: corporate and individual, to tackle issues like providing clean drinking water for children and families. It's reported that the #1 cause of death for children globally is the lack of clean water to drink, which causes other illnesses leading to death. The goal is to infuse selflessness into the culture. It only costs $7.50 to provide clean water for 1 child for 1 year.

GOSPELflava.com: How can people get involved with this movement?

William McDowell: They can personally be apart and spread the word about the campaign. Also by being open to God to hear what He wants us to do, and looking for options to help. We are also looking forward to being able to give away college scholarships for deserving students in the future.

GOSPELflava.com: As you continue to share your music with the world what lasting impression do you want to leave people with?

William McDowell: The reward of worship is relationship with God. Through my music I want people to know and remember that intimacy with God is paramount. I want people to be compelled to a life of selflessness and to hear God's heart and be proactive. People should not be the same after we have had an encounter with them and I want my music to reflect that as well.

GOSPELflava.com:Are there any artists you're working with or any special events that you're involved in that you're excited about?

William McDowell: I am working on my next project which we had a live recording for. Like I mentioned, I've been traveling internationally and will be going to South America, Ghana, and more. My goal is to travel across this world carrying the message of selflessness and intimacy with God.

It was a pleasure talking with William McDowell. His passion about God and the need to be involved on a global scale is inspiring. Check out the website and keep your ear to the ground to hear about when his next project will be released.
