DJ Maestro 1
The Street Mix Vol. 2: Unfinished Business

The underground scene continues to explode with innovative ideas and artists who continue to push the urban gospel presentation to the next level.

Enter Jason Norfleet, better known as DJ Maestro 1. This award-winning DJ has lit up the scene in the Connecticut area with underground mixtapes that are spreading around the country like wildfire.

CDAmong his mixes are the innovative and provocative Funke Sermons series, which pairs sermons from America's finest preachers with mainstream tracks bumping behind them. It makes for a combo rarely seen in Gospel music to date.

For example, Maestro 1 has taken sermons from notable ministers (including Rod Parsley, TD Jakes, Jesse Duplantis and Juanita Bynum) and placed them over backdrops from artists including Lil' Kim, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent and DMX.

So, it's safe to say that DJ Maestro 1 is on the edge of cutting edge.

The mixmaster now offers his latest mixtape titled The Street Mix Vol. 2: Unfinished Business, which presents several up and coming emcees.

This 21-track project kicks off with MMC who represent on "Throw Yo Hands Up". DJ Maestro 1 samples the popular "I'll Be Around" from Cee-Lo Green and Timbaland as MMC blesses the hit, commissioning God's people to give praise no matter what.

Sanctified Family represents nicely on this project with "I Don't Know" and the thought-provoking "Issues". The hook to this track brings lyrics that speak honestly and poignantly, acknowledging that we all have issues and that we shouldn't judge each other, but instead offer love as the solution and balm that the body of Christ requires (rather than self-righteousness). With a smoothed-out, head-nodding track serving as the backdrop, "Issues" is a keeper.

The beat collection also introduces us to the ministry of A.T.T.A.M., who present "Everyday". With a vibe reminiscent of the eclectic (but gifted) Wyclef Jean, the track reminds us that everyday is a day to be thankful regardless of our surroundings or struggles. Yet, with every day of fighting, A.T.T.A.M. lets us know that Christ's return is sooner.

The group also contributes "Stand Up" to the mixtape, encouraging us to stand up and represent Christ with praise. East coast emcee Rez steps up to the mic with a busy offering on "In Here", showcasing his flow over a gritty, heavily syncopated track that also features A.T.T.A.M. and Eye-One. It's street-savvy and promotes the power of the Holy Spirit, giving Him praise for a prolific lyrical flow.

Easily the most transparent track on the project comes from Rez with "Testimony". This cut is a portion of the emcee's testimony —honest, insightful and bound to lead others to Christ, as the emcee exposes his struggles and challenges and tells of his encounter with God that changed his life.

The Street Mix Vol. 2: Unfinished Business ends with an invitation to Christ on "Outro Prayer". DJ Maestro 1 gives the invitation, a fitting ending to an exciting mixtape.

This offering is yet another addition to Maestro 1's Maestro Movement, taking the Gospel to the street with quality and excellence. Indeed, it's an impressive offering that's worthy of a serious listen.
