 Loveletter to God  This sophomore release modestly mixes gospel to progressive rock styles to make it a nice addition to your musical collection. Under the musical leadership of pianist Stein Jonassen, Loveletter to God opens energy-charged with “Baby’s Eyes”, an energy-charged, up-tempo tune that has a strikingly similar and quite unexpected Israel and New Breed-like sound, especially on the musical introduction.From there, the Happiness Choir tickles your ears with a variety of mid-tempo to soul-stirring ballads. Cuts of particular interest are “Still My Heart”, “There For You” and “Live to Serve”. While the lyrics of some of the songs are in Norwegian, don’t let that make your finger inch toward the forward button. You may not understand the expression, but “Exodus”, “Dans I Blomster” and “Peter, Den Sterke” are three spiritually-saturated tunes sung in the choir’s native tongue, and there’s not a doubt that there’s Power permeating the trio of songs. The Holy Spirit doesn’t need translation. From contemporary Gospel songs that are sure to make you want to clap your hands, to songs you’re quite likely not going to understand, the Happiness Choir Project is a great import from across the waters. The 13-track Loveletter to God is one that deserves reading, not just in Norway, but worldwide.
