J'Son
The Seasoning

If you haven’t yet heard, St Louis is really starting to give rise to a great core of rappers and producers. The emcees (Flame, This’l, Azriel, and Elicia) are hot and with Nab and JR at the producer’s position, things are strong. All of these artists have been connecting with Cross Movement Ministries and Texas-based 116 Clique to make sure that people around the globe receive ministry.

Enter J’Son.

CDJ’Son adds some more flavor to the mix with The Seasoning, a nice debut project that demonstrates his prowess, and shows him to be an emcee to be reckoned with.

Usually there is nothing but talk on an intro, but on this album, it’s J’Son rapping about the mission of a Christian over bangin’ beat.

Synth horns and a simple, but dope beat accent J’Son’s bold lyrics on "A Yo". Yes, J’Son is a no-nonsense emcee when it comes to doing God’s will and fulfilling the mission of His children on the earth. "Apology" is a call for repentance and an invitation to come to Christ. This is a head-nodder with a few different keyboard effects and that midtempo, Midwest-styled beat that those St Louis boys are known for.

The best song on the album is "Grace" featuring JR. J’Son spits heat over this chilled out track, with JR’s vocals and harmonies on the hook adding some soothing and beautiful vibes. This is a winner.

Lecrae lays a nice beat banger on "Rep Christ" as J’Son goes down the line of why he will represent Christ, with nothing stopping him. Get ready to nod your head, and press repeat on this one.

Sugar-coating the subject matter is something that J’Son has a problem with, clearly evident on "Sin Problem". He attacks the issue, declaring society’s ills being due to to sin and the sinful nature of man. The guitar samples flow throughout this one.

"Take It The Streets" is a dirty South-styled banger that has J’Son talking about the boldness that we all must have in order to successfully take the Gospel to the streets.

The Seasoning is a great debut from a focused emcee. No dance tracks here, but the material addresses a wide variety of issues, and J’Son does it all well, aiming straight for the heart. The Seasoning is recommended listening for the hardest of dudes to the preachers in the pulpit.
