The Rev. Dr. S. Tyrone Thornton
Memorial Mass Choir
We Will Meet Again

After the sudden death of the churches beloved pastor, The Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church of Providence , NC, under the leadership of his brother, Kenneth Thorton, assembled a loving tribute in the form of an outstanding choir project.

Remember this name: The Rev. Dr. S. Tyrone Thornton Memorial Mass Choir.

CDFittingly titled by the hope-filled statement, We Will Meet Again, the project is seven songs in length, but stretched to 17 tracks when you count the various intros and reprises. Great choir vocals mark the album, and the choir's band is replete with recognizable names: Calvin Napper, Cedric Thompson, Reggie Graves, Monty Robertson and Wil Morrison.

LaDonna Mole, of John P. Kee and New Life, fronts a couple of songs on the album, including the title track. On "I Want To Be Ready", she lets loose, her smooth pipes layering over a predominantly traditional setting of these familiar lyrics.

Other soloists on the album are equally up to the task. "Use Me" is a fast-paced, traditional cut fueled by the vigourous Hammond B3 workout, and featuring the capturing vocals of Arnold Bullock.

Nigel Andrews (known for his solo work on albums from James Bignon and Deliverance) testifies on "A Modern Day Job Story", of the usefulness of affliction. Laidback instrumentation is the foundation for this meandering ballad, which Andrews uses to pour his heart and soul into the lyrics. The choir's entry by song's end adds power to the cut.

On "Hold On", several youthful soloists step forward for a poignant recollection of Rev. Dr. Tyrone, finishing with an energetic blast of encouragement from the full-throttle vocal crew who lend their voices to the cut.

Other notable songs include "I'm Ready" and the opening "Jesus Is Worthy".

We Will Meet Again comes along as an unexpected gem, and may just qualify as one of the nicest independent choir projects out there right now. Just because it's not nationally distributed, doesn't mean it's not great.
