Tina Glenn
You Can Make It

You hear them even once, and you instantly know they have that "adult" sound. Hard to define, but it’s there, and some artists just have it. Tina Glenn has it.

Glenn is well-traveled as a background singer, and with You Can Make It, she steps out in contemporary jazz territory, with production from the always excellent Roger Ryan.

CDSit back, relax and enjoy the smooth jazzy remake of the Negro Spiritual, "Po Pilgrim", a song highlighted by the backing vocals of Take 6's Mark Kibble. Glenn also revisits the popular hymn, "Lord I Want to Be A Christian", a song that she sings in a style that will make fans of Mahalia Jackson proud.

The release is full of original songs, some of which were written by Glenn herself. "Walk With Me" is an upbeat jam supported by the programming skills of Jason Gaines. Another Glenn composition is "Jesus Alone", which features her singing beautifully accompanied only by Ryan's piano. Kimberly Mont's backing vocals provide the icing on the cake, and the message stands alone.

"Come to Jesus" is a chill R&P ballad that is obviously extends the invitation to receive salvation, and features the melodic guitar styling of the veteran Dana Reed.

Glenn shines on the title track, a cut with the feel of a soundtrack to an inspirational movie, with Ryan adding orchestration to give it extra push.

Other songs to check out are "If You Believe" featuring the backing vocals of Anointed and "What I Know".

Solid lyricism combined with a hefty dose of musicality make Tina Glenn’s You Can Make It a real keeper in the contemporary jazz vien. You can’t go wrong with this one.
