![]() Gospel Dream Talent Search, the Gospel music industry’s answer to American Idol, announced the winner of its 2003 nationwide talent search Friday, July 11, 2003 at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Benita Washington, an optician from Nashville, ranked first out of over 400 contestants and won the title of Gospel music’s brightest new star. She sang a song from The Tri-City Singers' TriCity4.com album, “When The Saints Go To Worship”. ![]() "Gospel Dream was a great success" said Elvin Ross, executive director of Full Gospel Entertainment "I congratulate Benita, the top ten finalist and all the contestants for making Gospel Dream one of the most talked about talent searches." Noted industry professionals offered their expertise and talent to this stellar event. Industry icons included: Bobby Jones, Vickie Winans, Tyler Perry, Michelle Williams, BeBe Winans, Sanchez Harley, David Asche, Bishop Albert Jamison and Jackie Patillo. Activities interspersed among the talent search proper were panel sessions, including one sponsored by The Grammys which brought together advice-laden music executives to offer their expertise. Look for Benita Williams to make appearances at the upcoming Tehillah Music Group Summit at Walt Disney World, September 22-24, 2003 (sponsored by Gospelflava.com), as well as at the GMWA Annual Convention held in Tampa Bay, Florida in mid-August 2003. Bishop Paul S. Morton, Presiding Bishop of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International served as Senior Executive Producer of Gospel Dream. Elvin Ross, accomplished composer/producer for many popular urban theatrical productions, was the executive in charge of production.
