Never count out the tried and the true. Surely that’s an adage that Bishop G.E. Patterson agrees with —and in the realm of Gospel music, it’s a reality that the old songs of the church will never go out of fashion.

On the Volume Two of Bishop G.E. Patterson & Congregation Singing The Old Time Way, the COGIC bishop once again finds his way in the time honored songs of Sunday morning —the songs that not only your mother sang, but your grandfather as well.

Recorded live in Memphis, like the title might suggest, this collection is simply an honest-to-goodness recording of Bishop Patterson on the mic (mostly), accompanied by the standard band complement (keyboard, organ, bass, guitar, percussion) and full congregational vocal support.

Songs such as “Jesus Breaks Every Fetter” begin with Bishop Patterson setting things up with a spoken intro, bringing greater meaning to the lyrics. Others such as “I’m Encouraged” are self-evident in their expression of faith. Simply singing it with the congregation is a means of reinforcing the truth in your own soul.

Included on the disc is “I Surrender All”, “I’m Going Through”, “I Know The Lord Will Make A Way” and the old favorite, “Yes, God Is Real”.

On four of the twenty-two tracks, Evangelist Rose Marie Rimso-Brown gives the bishop a break, and then holds her own on lead vocals. “I’m Going With Jesus” and “Come Unto Me” are a couple of the songs on which she takes the mic.

This is an album to play over and over again, for years to come. Because these songs just will never lose their power.
