Caroline
Here I Am

This is the continuation of our series that shines the spotlight on quality Gospel projects coming from the shores of the United Kingdom. Check here to get to previous UK reviews.

There’s a load more Gospel to be heard in the United Kingdom, and Caroline is the latest.

This singer with Nigerian roots startles with her debut project Here I Am, from Two ‘N Four Productions.

CD Like tender steak in good gravy, the album is awash with superb songs and smothered in delicious accompaniment. Producer Andrew Small carries his excellence (as MD for veteran Aussie pop sensation Kylie Minogue) into the Gospel realm with this project.

Caroline's voice is smooth but with a touch of texture. A vocal chameleon, she shows an ability to wrap her sound around the tone and feel of a variety of expressive melodies. Small's creative soundscapes are varied but not experimental. The mix is super.

One of the album's sweetest grooves is "I Am The Lord". Organic in feel and blessed with intimate percussion and an eventfully gorgeous melody, the mid-tempo song is wrapped in comforting sounds of blends of pop and soul.

The title cut shows Caroline bringing a slightly staccato approach to the acoustic guitar-kissed track, as she tells of God giving us a second chance with the opportunity of new life.

Nicky Brown contributes his organ / piano talent to several songs, including "I Don't Need Another", a guitar-fused gem where Caroline expresses that she doesn’t need another reason to praise God.

Caroline also easily hangs her vocals on urban edged cuts such as "It's Alright" and "Don't Fight It", both which feature bold, phat tracks with WarYah lightly and expertly dropping rap flows between verses.

With ten tracks of Gospel excellence, I Am Here is an album to put on your find list and Caroline is an artist to hear.
