Delroy Souden
No Doubt
Jamaica native Delroy Souden possesses a voice that is elegantly smooth with a tight vibrato character and has a great range. Artists with such pipes usually rely on finessed balladry.
There's plenty of fine ballads on No Doubt, Souden's debut from EnSound Entertainment, but the beauty of this release is that he ventures out much further, exploring musical arenas that include bouncin' rhythm and praise and island-touched festival tunes.
Packing a generous 18 tracks, the studio album is highlighted by songs such as "My Saving Grace". Written by Joseph L. Briggs, the mid-tempo song has a great hook and bright harmonies, combined with stellar production, packing just the right touch of studio techniques.
"Holy Fire" also gets you out of your seat with its snaggy melody, compelling rhythms and tight harmonies. Written by Souden, Kevin Jasper joins with him on vocals and it's simply a joyous celebration of God's love.
Saxophonist Courtney Fadlin splashes his sound onto several songs on the project, including "Holy Spirit Enter My Heart", an uptempo song that comes with an separately tracked, full harmony acappella intro . Fadlin also works on the harmony-filled "Hold On".
Ballad watchers will zoom into the soft "Take The Name of Jesus With You". Meditative in vibe, Souden tenderly intones the encouragement, accompanied only by the softest of tracks from Don Corey Washington.
Two bonus tracks are tossed in for good measure, Joe Flame touches up the urban mix on both the title track and "You Are So Good".
All through No Doubt, Delroy Souden delivers the right combo of choice beats and righteous lyrics. It's a bright, uplifting and fresh musical package.
