ill harmonics
Take Two

Dynamic duo ill harmonics' return with their crisp and keen stylistics on their sophomore release, Take Two.

On call as hip hop medics, the two prescribe a healthy dose of organic rhythm and freshly cut material. Since the release of their debut album, An Octave Above The Original, Pt. 1, they have been on two major tours and appeared on a movie soundtrack.

CDBack into the recording groove, ill harmonics have richly developed what initially made them unique. Their solid lyrical performance creates room for even a larger fan base.

The skilled Blake Knight and the veteran Playdough exhibit their surgical techniques as they splice jazzy sounds with contagious Latin-flavored acoustics (lots of guitar), making for an effort aimed to cure hip hop starvation.

Although these Uprok recording artists seem to rely on redundancy at times, they improve on their potential by offering a harder-edged rock/rap vibe on several of the featured songs.

With cuts like the title track "Take Two", but also "San Jose", "Mr. Chris T. Ian", "Must Be Crazy" and "Hi-Fidelity" (featuring Freddie Bruno), ill harmonics make accurate cerebral incisions, successfully infecting the ear with catchy hooks and acrobratic lyrics.

"The Crowd Is Standing" brings in DJ Maj for some scratch skills, as Knight and Playdough engage their own skills to explore different epidemics of the day and concoct rhyming remedies to leave an impressionable mark on your soul.

Knight's ingenuity shines through production-wise and Playdough's wordplay makes for an abstract musical rendition of a cure-all for any syndrome of holy hip hop deprivation.
