The Procussions
...As Iron Sharpens Iron
Coming straight of Colorado is The Procussions, a hip-hop trio that's ready to blaze the airwaves with old-school hip-hop.
Consisting of Stro the 89th Key, Mr. J Medeiros and Resonant, The Procusions debut with ...As Iron Sharpens Iron, an eclectic 15-track set. The approach the group makes is reminiscent of hip hop groups such as The Roots or Outkast, as they bring live music to their game and lace each track with tight flows.
The journey begins with the leadoff cut, aptly titled "The Beginning", a groove that gets your head noddin' and gives a great introduction to these emcee's skills, as they give you a taste of their flow over a simple, yet effective hook.
"Introducing" exposes the style of each of the three emcees, as they do what they do best. Here, all members get to flow, but they also devote some time to some old school scratching to end the track.
The album is so diverse in its styles that it's hard to fully classify the group. From jazz to straight hip-hop, the group fuses each sound effortlessly and has the ability to flow with equal ease over any style they choose.
"Wegotta" sees Stro the 89th Key representing well on keys; the track has a jazzy feel reminiscent of the days of Digable Planets. The song speaks to the need for us to be about our Father's business and avoid the temptation to be lazy and complacent.
"All That It Takes (Org)" is another heavily jazz-influenced track with some big time bounce to it. The track reminds us that God has given us all that we need to be successful in life and in our calling. A second version of this song, "All That It Takes (RV)", has a more rock feel to it, and is an intriguing listen.
"Make It Happen" reminds us to take an aggressive approach to life and utilize the power that God's given us to make an impact in the world around us.
Every track on this project has been skillfully crafted and showcases the potency and potential of this awesome group. This debut is a breath of fresh air for the hip hop game. With skilled emcees and fresh music, the Procussions deliver a keeper for the true lovers of the hip-hop game.
