I See Beautiful Trent, who suffered the loss of her husband in a diving accident in 2001, delivers an intensely personal album that is a tribute to God’s custom-delivered love and care, which He brings to us no matter what degree of adversity we face. With industry veteran Miner, together with John Manderville and Tony Montana, Trent offers up her message in a soulfully funky wrapper, with deft detours into balladry and anthems. The album opens with the effusive “Real Life”, Trent’s testimonial celebration of the freedom that Jesus Christ brings. Bouncy pop stylings (keyboards and plucked strings) set the tone.On “Pray”, MC Automatic serves up the rhymed flows over Miner’s percolating guitar-focused track, which serves to accentuate Trent’s invitation to pray ‘cause it can change all things, I believe so’. Radio mixers, this one would superbly pair up with CeCe Winan’s similarly themed “Anybody Wanna Pray”. Also in the uptempo camp is the defiant “I’m Not Listening”, a dance-driven groove that Trent uses to counter naysayers and protagonists to declare her intent to forge ahead in the strength of God’s promises. Miner joins Trent with vocals on “Is This Love”, an uptempo relationship cut that asks of God the question that anyone starting out on a relationship asks. “Stop The World”, which Trent sings in honor of her late husband, Trent Lenderink, is an emotionally charged, mid-tempo number, that at once expresses the pain of the passing, and the eternal hope of the expectation of reunion. Don’t miss “Forgive Me”, Trent’s cover of Tim Miner’s 1990’s hit from his solo Motown project. The song is one of the most beautifully-written and tender compositions in the past decades with Trent’s sensitive vocal rendering and guided by Miner’s production hand, the album is worthy for this inclusion alone. The piece is innovatively blended into “Run Into The Arms of Love”, with strings arranged by Howard McCrary. Kathyrn Scott’s “At The Foot of the Cross” is also covered on the album, with Trent softly working it into a reverential, guitar-splashed worship ballad. Don’t let his offering from Tammy Trent slip under your radar.
