![]() Portable Sounds Well, the latter just happened, with the release of Portable Sounds, an album continuing in the same vein of diverse sonics, but having a different feel than his previous joint, Diverse City. TobyMac enlists the help of rising producer Christopher Stevens to helm the bulk of the cuts. "Feelin So Fly" could rock any party or sports game with the uptempo groove and ad libs from Joanne Valencia (aka Siti Monroe) and spice by "Mr Talkbox" (Byron Chambers). ![]() Kirk Franklin and Mandisa, of 2006 American Idol fame, guest on "Lose My Soul", with Franklin trading flows with TobyMac as they discuss having God as a top priority in life. Mandisa comes through mid-song to add plenty of soul. Stevens provides the beat backdrop for Toby's young son, Truett (“Tru-Dog”), to spit his elementary fire on "Hypeman TRU-Dog 07". (Tru-Dog shows promise as a future emcee/artist, so be on the lookout for him in a few years). Lead single "Made to Love" speaks of our purpose on the earth and it breathes an adult-contemporary sound with subtle horns and strings. No wonder the song is burning up the CCM charts. No TobyMac project would be right if it did not speak on the beauty of diversity. Behold "One World", featuring Valencia. (It’s time for this talented artist to release a CD of her own c’mon Toby, make it happen.) Portable Sounds has sounds of different genres, with TobyMac showing his love for many styles of music, done with class, and his own signature.
