![]() ![]() VIDEO: Live From The Throne Room ![]() After viewing Throne Room it will become painstakingly obvious that we have grossly overused the phrase, “worship experience”. Winans and crew will effectively redefine your expectation of worship by covertly being, well... excellent. Her delivery is riveting without the typical (albeit fun), church-isms that we have grown accustomed to. Her intensity is great, without theatrics, and she encourages her audience without “fussing” at them. Indeed there is a time and a place to be pushed further in worship, and certainly we’ve all been in a place where our personal worship pushes us beyond the exuberance of our neighbor, but as worship leaders go, we’ve sort of relaxed into this habit of hollering to elicit response. Winans reminds us of a different and perhaps more excellent way. With a choice group of musicians, under the direction of Luther “Mano” Hanes, and some refreshed arrangements, “Throne Room” sets the stage for worship beyond the veil. Included in the repertoire is material from her most recent Throne Room release (see album review) as well as material from her previous recordings. ![]() Mano works magic with the song arrangement, and apart from Winans’ genuineness, this has to be the single largest reason for the effectiveness of the project. On “More Than What I Wanted”, Winans shifts into a segment that is so intimate it seems we are rudely peeking in on a conversation between her and God. Delicate and ground-shaking at the same time, we are given a moment's reprieve as she transitions in song and wardrobe to the Throne Room. ![]() As liturgical dancers beautifully set the stage for “You’re So Holy”, the worship continues. Favorites like “Alabaster Box” and “King of Kings” round out the song selection that is sequenced just perfectly. Background vocals solid as stone pillars are delivered throughout, by stalwarts Jerard Woods, Leanne Palmore and newcomer Benita Washington. The DVD features a generous 'behind the scenes' segment at the end, with Winans speaking about the whole setup, the planning behind it, and introducing some of the players, as well as having a little conversation with her son. CeCe Winans captures the best in worship experiences on this DVD. From a supreme set, to beautiful music, to a radiant host, Throne Room will remain in your disc changer for quite some time.
