February 1, 2003 was a beautiful Saturday evening in New York City, and Radio City Music Hall once again opened its doors to a Gospel concert. The place was packed to capacity and everyone was anticipating an uplifting experience. The event was billed as a Pre-Grammy Gospel Celebration featuring Hezekiah Walker & The Love Fellowship Choir with special guests. First on stage to get the praise and worship going was The Upper Room Choir, followed by the McDonald's Gospel Choir in great form. After them was the outstanding Alvin Slaughter who shook the rafters at Radio City. A special surprise was offered when Alvin was joined by his son, holy hip-hop artist Sean Slaughter. It was perhaps an unlikely combo of praise and worship's finest with hard-hitting hip hop, but it worked wonderfully. Michelle Williams then graced the stage, her voice angelic and looking very comfortable in singing what she knows best Gospel music. Following her was the artist who many will say stole the show. CeCe Winans. Did she ever sing and worship onto the Lord. Everybody in Radio City stood throughout her performance and she gave her all.
Kee was joined shortly on stage by Hezekiah Walker to perform "I'll Make It". Everybody loved this one. Kee gave big-ups to Hezekiah for continuing on the right track. Walker remained on stage as the choir that everybody was waiting for was ushered in. The Love Fellowship Choir (LFT) started off with a song that promises to be on their next recording, and one that they have sung many times in service at their church home in Brooklyn. Titled "Lift Him Up", they build it to a fever pitch of praise everytime they sing it. Pastor Walker asked everybody for their prayers for him and his family, and to keep God in everything that we do. LFT then performed "We Made It" in which every person rocked from side to side. Of special note was Syreeta Thompson, who plays trumpet with pastor Walker. An outstanding talent, her stage presence is notable and she is a major part of the LFT's Levites. As the evening closed, Walker announced that he will be recording another "live" project in April 2003 at the Brooklyn Marriott. Radio City Music Hall will never be the same, so you can count that Brooklyn Marriott will be changed in April as well. ![]() ![]() ![]()
