Darwin Hobbs
Broken

CD Darwin Hobbs delivers his junior release with senior authority (hear audio).

Broken on EMI Gospel marks another glowing release from Hobbs and speaks continued promise.

A bevy of producers at his disposal, Hobbs picks the cream of the crop and lets them shine in their respective areas. A little funk, a little church, a little worship.

Right out the box is "Nobody Like Jesus", one of three cuts penned by Hobbs. A rich testimonial duet with the poetically prominent voice of Shirley Murdock, it's a midtempo delight and the song flows with ease. Byron Sowell co-writes and is a triple threat on drums, bass and keys. This is good stuff that will leave you asking for more.

Hobbs scripts a beautiful tribute to wife Traci on "Beautiful To Me". Verses that will not leave a dry eye and a simple chorus make this a likely candidate for summer wedding repertoire.

"Break Me/Draw Me" is a slow cry out to God, punctuated with acoustic guitar by Michael Ripoli. Bernie Herms (husband of CCM powerhouse Natalie Grant), produces and plays most instruments. Rose Harper writes the Danny Weatherspoon-produced "We Worship You Today", with Joey Woolfalk leaving his indelible mark on guitar on this worship ballad.

"The Light" serves up some straight up funk. Tommy Sims and Jerard Woods share the pen and paper on this fun jam. And Mike City (who gave Brandy her "Full Moon") offers "Against The World". Keeping with the groove, Kevin Bond kicks "Praz Him".

Tommy Sims is at the helm for overall production and it is seamless. Among the lion's share of tracks, Sims writes on "Unexplainable" a little groove about how God continually confounds us in His awesomeness. And how difficult it is to describe it!

What does describe it is "You Are God". Slowing down the voice of worship, this song aptly displays where Hobbs' love is. Vocally pure and heart-transparent, this is where Hobbs reigns.

Hobbs has a voice that is tremendously versatile, and well....just plain sweet! It seems he can do just about anything. On this, his third release, just find what your favorite is and dig right in.
