WOW Gospel #1s

You could call this the WOW of the WOWs.

In celebration of 10 years of WOW Gospel annual compilations, Zomba Gospel has issued what is arguably a ‘best of’ Gospel collection from the past decade. As usual, it comes in a 2-disc package, with a separately available DVD set also available. It's the WOW Gospel #1s!

All the expected hits are here, sung by all the A-list artists. You hardly need to be told that these include Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Mary Mary, Smokie Norful, Donnie CDMcClurkin, Karen Clark Sheard, Shirley Caesar, Richard Smallwood, Tonex, CeCe Winans, Donald Lawrence and Hezekiah Walker.

Kicking off the first disc is Kirk Franklin’s “Brighter Day”, leading in to Mary Mary’s first breakaway smash, “Shackles (Praise You)”. The jams continue with inclusions such as Tye Tribbett & G.A.’s “No Way” and Dietrick Haddon’s recent “Heaven Knows”. Memorable hits from George Huff, Kierra “Kiki” Sheard, Darwin Hobbs and Myron Butler & Levi round out the disc’s 16 cuts.

The second disc in the compilation is no less worthy, with Donnie McClurkin’s standout “We Fall Down”, Helen Baylor’s moving “Helen’s Testimony” and Smokie Norful’s “I Need You Now” showcasing the softer side of the genre. Vanessa Bell Armstrong contributes “So Good To Me” and Richard Smallwood & Vision’s “Healing” are also in the mix, together with songs from Kurt Carr & The Kurt Carr Singers, Victory In Praise Music And Arts Seminar Mass Choir, Byron Cage and Dorinda Clark-Cole.

Zomba’s Senior Vice President and General Manager Jazzy Jordan sums it up appropriately when he describes WOW Gospel #1s as offering “the very best of the best.” If you’ve ever needed the must-have hits all in one spot, then this would be your answer.
