RECAP: After Party at the 23rd Annual Stellar Awards (2008)
So, how do you follow up the 23rd annual Stellar Awards taping?
You go to the worthy After Party hosted by Zomba Gospel, which is what went down on January 12th, 2008 at the Acuff Theatre, adjacent to the Grand Ole Opry Theatre. The night built on the celebration that was the vibe of the entire weekend.
The Awards were over, people were satisfied, and yet many were tired. Folks spilled into the theatre and to their delight, coffee and tea were there to provide a small caffeine rush to get them through the night. Since Zomba Gospel was hosting, that meant that a few of Gospel's heavyweight were going to perform.
Things kicked off with Pastor Marvin Sapp ministering with his hit "Never Would've Made It". He served as the host for the evening, an evening filled with great worship and celebration by many of Gospel's biggest names. Donald Lawrence teamed with his protégés, The Murrills, to deliver a new single, "Family (There's A Healing)", from their upcoming release due in May.
21:03 and Byron Cage each added to the mix, performing a cappella hymns and high energy worship songs respectively.
Dorinda Clark-Cole performed a new cut from her forthcoming album "Yesterday", which absolutely rocked the house. It was a churchy number that brought many to their feet, with Dorinda adding some choreography to accent the number.
The evening was highlighted by a live performance from Kirk Franklin, complete with horn section, and a full band featuring Shawn Martin and the returning Bobby Sparks. The crew performed "Imagine Me" before delving into a slew of new material from Franklin's new album, The Fight of My Life, including "Hide Me", "Help Me Believe", and "I Like Me".
An incredible highlight was "Little Boy", which featured Isaac Carree, Lowell Pye, and Stellar Award winner Rance Allen, who tore the house DOWN!!
Relive that incredible night with our pictorial recap.
