"I've got to say something
Do something move something"

—lyrics from "Jump, Jump"

"We [put] our heart, soul, mind and energy into this record.
We put so much into this project in terms of our sound and creativity."

J.Moss

Just like you'd expect, J.Moss' sophomore set V2... slams the speakers with hotness, jams and the choicest of hip hop butter. Standing for "Volume 2", V2... is everything that you'd hope the Detroit wunderkind would do on a project —and that includes a standout guest list.

CDMoss kicks it off with "Jump, Jump", a straight-up praise jam with a barbed melodic hook and input from Kierra "Kiki" Sheard and urban trio 21:03. It's not over there though, as Kirk Franklin steps into the follow-up cut, "Dance". Both songs are clearly for the dance floor, with their stacked harmonies and hype beat, but just as obviously carry a message that celebrates new life in Christ. There's nothing more motivating for dance than that.

On "We Love You", Moss brings back the jam first found on Byron Cage's An Invitation to Worship, but this time it's a live version, and yes, Marvin Winans Sr. and Cage are both in attendance.

On the slower tip, "Praise On The Inside" is the ticket. Carrying Moss' patented close harmony arrangement, and catapulted into hit territory by it's combo of melodic and lyric elements, the song is a winner.

"Afraid" is an innovative fast-patter soft rap of sorts, in which Moss addresses the fears that we all face at once point or another. With a chorus that says "God didn't put that in me / But the spirit of power and love and of sound mind", the song is the artist transparently testifying, and bringing us all into the scriptural perspective of how to face apprehension.

Other high points on this keeper project are "I'm Not Perfect" featuring R&B crooner Anthony Hamilton, and "Know Him" with Moss' cousin Karen Clark Sheard.

"Nobody" (in which Moss empowers by simply stating that God doesn't make mistakes) and "Operator", with its throwback vibe updated to 2007's sound, are also ones to listen for.

No doubt, J.Moss is a force to behold, with his ability to wonderfully entwine ministry and musicality in various facets. V2... is more proof of that.
